Issue with Configuring Google Apps E-mail on Android and iOS
Thursday, March 29 5:29 PM
There is an ongoing issue with the configuration of iOS and Android mobile e-mail clients for student Google Apps e-mail. Students that have never before configured their Google Apps email for IMAP or forwarding cannot complete the setup of their e-mail on their devices. The setup sequence hangs at user authentication.
Please note: This is NOT an issue for students that have had IMAP enabled prior to mid-January 2012.
Google Support has acknowledged this issue and is actively working on it. ITS is providing any necessary assistance in this effort. Please check back for updates.
Critical Microsoft Security Update Requires Computer Reboot
Tuesday, March 27 4:03 PM
There is a critical Microsoft patch that was released with the March security updates that fixes a major problem that could allow an attacker to remotely take complete control of your computer. This would allow an attacker to read, write, delete, and or execute arbitrary commands from the compromised system. It is absolutely essential that the most recent Microsoft security patches be applied to computers running Microsoft Windows and then be rebooted.
For Faculty and Staff (ALL University Workstations):
Most faculty and staff computers should already have received the latest Microsoft updates and just require a reboot for these changes to take effect. Therefore, to address this critical situation, ITS will be forcing a scheduled reboot of ALL university desktops between 3:00AM and 4:00AM to ensure that this patch is properly installed. This reboot will begin on Thursday, March 29th and continue each day during this reboot window until all workstations have been patched.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure to save all work before leaving the office so that no work is lost when the reboot occurs.
(For any other machine either Pace-owned or personally-owned that is not connected to the Pace network, please follow the instructions listed below for the Students.)
For Students (and Users with Personally-owned Machines):
All users are advised to apply the latest Microsoft updates to their computer and then perform a reboot to complete the process. Patches can be downloaded and installed on Windows 7 computers by going to Start > All Programs > Windows Updates > Check for Updates. Alternatively, users can open up a web browser and go to: http://update.microsoft.com.
